Members: Consumer members and Provider members

Have you even noticed that sometimes you can pick up a signal of your wifi device just driving or walking down the street ? That signal is comming from a business or a residence in your immediate area. We hope to attract members that would be interested in becomming a provider. The provider hosts WiFi equipment from the cooperative that provides services in the immediate area. The type of network is called a mesh network and that allows for the WiFi units of the cooperative to talk to each other and reach areas that may not have connectivity.
 
Consumer members are purchasers of the wifi service, supporting products and can avail themselves of the support and help services that are being organized.
 
The provider members and the consumer members create the WiFi market. That market is the service, the equipment, and the support.
 
 
General Membership Steps
 
From January 3rd to June 30th the introductory membership fee will be 1.00 On July 1st, the membership fee rises to 5.00. The membership of record on June 30th, 2008 will be polled and a vote established to elect the begining board and working committees. From the purchase of the membership, the member has the opportunity to participate in the WiFi market as a consumer with a reduced rate, as a provider with their own compensatory usage, or as a patronage participant, with a profit share in the years we become profitable. With a membership, all products of the Cooperative are available at a reduced rate. All products are also available to the general public at are regular retail pricing. Patronage Participation

 

Patronage participation is the method that the members share in the profits of the cooperative. Cooperatives are usually formed when individuals in an area are unable to get good product and favorable pricing for goods and services that they need. We are a New Urban Cooperative, or a cooperative that sells goods and services, but also adds value to the single product and service through bundling, packaging, and support.

 

The two types of patronage that we are beginning with is compensatory patronage and Capital Patronage. Compensatory is where you use the WiFi service for free while providing a local access or backhaul service to the internet. Capital is where you participate in a financial way at the level that you choose for a percentage of the profits in the years that we are profitable.

 

Both types of patronage are enabled by purchasing a rider to add to the membership. That rider specifies what you are participating in and what the terms of your membership are ammended to reflect.

 

Basic riders, both Compensatory and Capital are 25.00 With voting rights and product offerings and selection by type of rider along with standard member voting rights.

Technology is a very large field. No one organization can claim a mastery. Members in specialty areas are encouraged to look at their own skills and provide that service for a price to the at large membership.
